Phil Nichol To Front New Cabaret Night At Comedy Store

Award winning comedian, actor and now podcaster Phil Nichol, who is currently starring in the West End as Loco Chanelle/Hugo in ‘Everyone’s Talking About Jamie’ at the Apollo Theatre until 26th September, has announced several new projects in the coming months.  

 

His critically acclaimed show ‘Cray Cray Cabaret’ is back – a sellout smash in Edinburgh that now finds a new home at the London Comedy Store in the West End. Produced by Ditto productions every second Wednesday of the month at the Comedy Store from 8th September the first week’s guests include Rich Hall, Jayde Adams, Huge Davies and Njambi McGrath alongside their house band David Tims & The Big-Ish. Nichol has also created and is co-hosting a new podcast called ‘Songs In The Key Of Laugh’ with musician David Tims.  The podcast revolves around the theme of comedy songs, why they are great, and how ubiquitous they are without us realising. They will reminisce about classic comedy songs, discuss the music of the day and interview a musical comedian for a chat about their insights into songwriting. Episode One features Nick Helm and will be released at 2pm on 6th October with future episodes every other Tuesday.  Future guests include Phil Kay, Jim Tavare (Harry Potter), Rob Rouse (Upstart Crow/ 8 Out of 10 Cats), Ria Lina (Mock the Week), Ben Norris (Mock the Week, Buzzcocks)Jonny Awsum (Britain’s Got Talent)Katie Pritchard (Musical Comedy Awards 2019 Winner) and David Eagle (comedy award winner /three-time Radio 2 Folk Award winner).  

 

 

You can also see Phil soon in the new TV series of ‘Agatha Raisin’ starring Ashley Jensen and Matt Horne on Sky/Acorn playing Paul Chambers, a pub landlord and leader of a Pagan coven in Episode 1 of Series 4 called ‘Kissing Christmas Goodbye’ on air this December. Did he commit the murder? Let’s see! Phil has also been confirmed in his first panto at the Theatre Royal Stratford East's Red Riding Hood playing the Dame Granny Hood from 27th November until 31st December.   

 

In addition, Corky and the Juice Pigs (the acclaimed Canadian comedy outfit that Phil was a member of) has been chosen for the British Library Unlocking Our Sound Heritage Project which will include their Live at the Purcell Rooms recording from 1993. https://www.bl.uk/projects/unlocking-our-sound-heritage#   He is also developing and producing four new scripts for his Comedians Theatre Company which started 16 years ago.

 

A true all-rounder - Phil Nichol has been seen on TV in Catastrophe (C4), Uncle (BBC), Man Down (C4),  Siblings (BBC3) and playing Terry Gilliam in BBC4's BAFTA nominated Holy Flying Circus. He has starred alongside Christian Slater in One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Boy George in Taboo, Bill Bailey in the fringe hit Twelve Angry Men and initiated the standout character of Hugo, a middle-aged drag queen, in the original West End production of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’. He has won numerous performance awards including the 2005 Stage Award for Acting Excellence (The Zoo Story), the 2006 Edinburgh Comedy Award (The Naked Racist) and a Scotsman Fringe First for the monologue Somewhere Beneath It All, A Small Fire Burns Still (2011). He is a winner of the prestigious Perrier (Edinburgh Comedy) Award and has toured his standup all over the world.
