Richard Stott Show To Be Released On Poland Syndrome Awareness Day

Richard Stott’s show, Right Hand Man is to be released by streaming site Next Up. To coincide with Poland Syndrome Awareness Day, the premier of the show on April 30 will be preceded by a specially curated Q&A with Richard to raise money for PIP-UK.

This romp through the taboos of being different combines anarchic storytelling and acidic punchlines as Richard describes how he learnt to roll with the hand life dealt him and draw humour from what we are told is humourless. It was recorded at Greenwich Theatre in November 2020 between lockdowns and was the only show filmed by Next Up during the whole of 2020 from the first day of lockdown in March.

Richard was born with Poland Syndrome making him lopsided with a misshapen hand and missing pectoral muscle. Following life changing surgery he now has toes for fingers on his left hand and in this unflinchingly honest show he examines body image, mental health and being disabled in an image-obsessed world.

Originating from Hull, Richard is an actor, comedian, voiceover artist and writer. Having gained a degree in theatre from The Arden (Awarded by Manchester University) he went on to a postgraduate in acting at Drama Studio London where he has since given workshops in show creation. As an actor and voiceover artist, he has worked for Swinton Insurance and Greenwich & Lewisham Young People’s Theatre amongst others.

Richard was the runner-up in Dave’s Top 10 Jokes of the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe. He has been interviewed by BBC No Filter and London Live about his experiences of body dysmorphic disorder and mental health conditions and he has appeared on The Nihal Arthanayke Show on BBC 5 Live and Union Jack Radio’s Minds Over Matter podcast.

During Autumn 2020, with funding from the Arts Council of England, Richard performed Right Hand Man online and streamed live from venues such as East Riding Theatre and Theatre Deli. He also ran specially tailored live workshops dealing with storytelling and personal experience, giving confidence to discuss and understand difference. He is the first Ambassador for Poland Syndrome charity PIP-UK (www.pip-uk.org).

Richard Stott: Right Hand Man is supported by Arts Council England and will be available on www.nextupcomedy.com from 30th April.
