News: Celebrity Mastermind Line-Up

Celebrity this, celebrity that, celebrity the other, you can't move for celebrities muscling in on programmes usually populated by members of the public. And Mastermind is no exception.

John Humphrys asks the questions as four famous faces go under the spotlight and brave the black chair in another episode of the classic quiz, donating to their chosen charities. Comedian Marcus Brigstocke, TV and radio presenter Vick Hope, Briony May Williams from Food Unwrapped and Siobhán McSweeney from Derry Girls answer questions on Pink Floyd, giraffes, 90s & 00s boy bands and Gene Wilder.

Brigstocke and his wife, fellow comic Rachel Parris, were recently guests on The Graham Norton Show, where one of their anecdotes didn't make the cut

“We got a motorhome – basically it’s a fridge on wheels – and decided to have a night away," said Brigstocke. "We found a nice secluded spot in the woods but, after a walk and spot of backgammon, we realised we were surrounded by lots of cars in what turned out to be a popular dogging spot!”

Rachel Parris continued, “They were parked either side of us – it was terrifying. And we looked like we were the ringleaders!”

Comedians have a good track record when it comes to general knowledge shows. They've pretty much bossed Richard Osman's House of Games recently, with Angela Barnes becoming the first contest ever to win all five episodes. Let's see how Marcus Brigstocke fares in the big black chair today. For followers of form it might be worth noting that he won his week of House of Games in February when he was up against a strong line-up of Sindhu Vee, Tom Rosenthal and Anna Richardson. Vick Hope, on the other hand, lost out to Tim Vine back in February 2020.

But who knows, there's everything to play for once Humphreys starts so he has to finish. Rachel Parris tweeted: "My husband is on #Mastermind tonight and if he wins I will never hear the end of it."

Celebrity Mastermind, Saturday, BBC One, 5.50pm.
