News: Zapped Comes To BBC iPlayer

BBC iPlayer has secured the rights to stream all three series of the critically-acclaimed UKTV Original comedy series Zapped.

Originally commissioned and broadcast for UKTV’s award-winning entertainment channel, all three series are now available to view on the BBC catch up service from today, Wednesday 3rd February 2021.

The series follows the exploits of Brian Weaver, an online data marketing assistant (even he doesn’t know what that means) who is accidentally transported to a parallel world of mystical creatures, magical forces and psychopathic Fairies.

Taking refuge in the backwater town of Munty, and it’s least-popular pub (The Jug & The Other Jug), Brian falls in with collection of oddball outsiders. There’s Herman (the slow-witted landlord), Barbara (a hopeless soothsayer), Steg (an armchair revolutionary) and Howell (a brain-fried wizard). Together they work to get Brian back home, as he struggles to adapt to life in this strange, new, frequently dangerous, world.

Starring James Buckley (‘The Inbetweeners’), Paul Kaye (‘Game of Thrones’), Sharon Rooney(‘Finding Alice’), Louis Emerick (‘Coronation Street’) and Kenneth Collard (‘Cuckoo’), the series features guest appearances from Steve Coogan, Sally Phillips, Rufus Hound, Mark Heap, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Guz Khan, Tim Key, Sylvester McCoy, Nina Wadia and Susan Wokoma.

Zapped is directed by Dave Lambert (‘Alan Partridge’s Scissored Isle’) and written by Dan Gaster, Will Ing and Paul Powell. Their individual credits include ‘The Last Leg’, ‘Miranda’, ‘Have I Got News For You’, ‘The Graham Norton Show’, ‘Would I Lie To You?’ and ‘A League Of Their Own’.

James Buckley (Brian Weaver) said: “Zapped was a joy to a make. I got to spend three years working with Paul Kaye, Sharon Rooney and Steve Coogan. I’m delighted it’s going to be available on iPlayer and can’t wait for more people to discover it.”

Sharon Rooney (Barbara) said: “In the words of Barbara, I am “absolutely totally brilliantly excited” that Zapped will be available on the iPlayer!”

Steve Coogan (Guest Star/Executive Producer) said: “We had a great time making Zapped. It’s weird, warm and brilliantly funny. Pure escapism. The perfect lockdown binge watch.”

Paul Powell (Writer/Executive Producer) added: “We’re so excited to see Zapped arrive on iPlayer and magically appear on your televisions, tablets, laptops and phones. Making Zapped was a fantastic experience and we can’t wait to share the unpredictable thrills of Munty with the BBC audience.”

Zapped is available now on BBC iPlayer .
