News: Matt Berry Live Gig

Matt Berry

Matt Berry, currently riding high with his sitcom Toast of London on C4, is to perform a one-off concert at The Forum, Kentish Town on Friday, 13 February, 2015.

The British Comedy Awards nominee has combined music and comedy for a number of years and wrote the theme tune to Toast of London. He will be joined on stage by his band, The Maypoles, who feature the former Bluetones frontman Mark Morriss on guitar.

Berry will be performing a set of songs drawn from his highly rated recent albums Witchazel and Kill The Wolf coupled with some of his early classics and. A few surprises are also promised for the encores. David Arnold conducted 25 musicians onstage for an orchestral rendition of Live and Let Die at his gig last year.

To coincide with the performance Berry and his label Acid Jazz will be issuing a limited edition 500 heavyweight vinyl pressing of his long-deleted CD-only album OPIUM.

Berry says: It’s difficult to find the time to play the music between the comedy, so every break from filming leaves me itching to record or perform new material. Whenever I get the opportunity, I jump at it.”

His latest album, the side-project synth-prog opus Music for Insomniacs, on which he plays every instrument featured just two 23-minute tracks recorded as Berry drew on his own personal experience aiming to create a sound to cure sleep deprivation.  The album has since been described by many, including NME, as far ‘too good to fall asleep to’.
