In a lengthy letter emailed to accepted and offer-pending shows, he explained the problems he had been having with one of his proposed venues. At the end he concluded that "I therefore confirm that I shall not be a part of Fringe 2014.

Review: Parkinson: Masterclass, Eddie Izzard, Sky Arts

In all the recent mouthing off about Michael McIntyre's new chat show, the aspiring king of desk-based cobblers has tended to be compared to the latterday Holy Trinity of Talk, Ross, Norton and Carr. Few have mentioned the one true god of the modern chat show, Michael Parkinson, who now really feels like he comes from a bygone age. Yet the old pre-Wogan warhorse is currently back on Sky Arts with his Masterclass. No nicking people's phones, no skipping across the stage, just down the line questions that everyone wants answered.

Preview: W1A, BBC2

Shitting on its own doorstep. A dog returning to its vomit. Liking the smell of its own farts. I'm not sure what the BBC's stance on W1A is, but I guess it is mainly about showing that they have the ability to laugh at themselves. The first episode in the eagerly anticipated semi-sequel to Twenty Twelve certainly sticks the boot into the Beeb but it is a designer boot, not a steel toe-capped one

Preview: The Week Ahead March 17 - 23

Carl Donnelly picked up a deserved Foster's Award nomination last summer for his stand-up show, Now That's What I Carl Donnelly! Vol V. No flashy effects, no gimmicks, just very funny autobiographical stories and a dodgy title from a man who looks a little like Rolf Harris. Donnelly had recently split up with his wife when he premiered the show, which maybe put a slight different spin on things but, if anything, added a little edge to his personal material.

News: Seinfeld's Wayne Knight Not Dead

Reports of the death of actor Wayne Knight, who played Jerry Seinfeld's neighbour Newman in the long-running sitcom, appear to be incorrect. Stories have spread online to say that the 58-year-old had been killed in a accident involving a tractor. Newman was reportedly travelling in a car that hit a disabled semi-tractor-trailer late Saturday night near the border between Pennsylvania and New York.
