Edinburgh Fringe Review: Nish Kumar

Underbelly

****

Nish Kumar is the kind of genial, warm, chatty comedian that makes you feel immediately relaxed. He is a safe pair of hands in the best of senses. Intelligent and amiable and never offensive. Although this year's show, Nish Kumar Is A Comedian, his second solo show, certainly touches on the subject of offence, asking why we find some things offensive and not others.

Preview: The Week Ahead Aug 4 - 10

The Edinburgh Festival is not the only comedy festival hitting the accelerator this week. London's Phoenix Fringe also boasts wall-to-wall wits competing for your pennies and attention. Their upcoming line-up includes a work-in-progress set from that nice and nerdy Mark Watson tonight and Robin Ince presenting a special edition of his Dirty Book Club on Saturday.

Opinion: The Global Joke Shortage – Please Give Generously

I went to Russell Brand's work-in-progress show at the Soho Theatre last night. Really enjoyed it. Say what you like about Brand, he is always different. His use of language, his use of the space – poncing and pacing about – and even his interactions with the audience, frequently sexual, single him out as someone special.
