East Londoner Bilal Zafar has been chosen as 'Top of the Bill' at this year's New Acts of the Year final at the Leicester Square Theatre. The competition, which used to be held at the Hackney Empire, no longer chooses winners, but Zafar was chosen as the best act by the judges today.
Zafar's set tells the story of how a joke about him running a cake shop that would only serve Muslims escalated and he ended up getting abuse from the English Defence League.
The line-up for the final of the annual New Acts of the Year has been confirmed.
Irish comedian Daniel Duffy (alias Michael Stranney) has won "top-of-the-bill" at this year's NATYS competition at the Bloomsbury Theatre this evening. Joint second were Jenny Collier and The Herbert (alias Spencer Jones). 3rd place went to Francis Foster.

The line-up of this year's New Act of the Year Top-of-the-Bill showcase has been confirmed. The 15 acts below will appear at the Bloomsbury Theatre on January 25, 2015.
The show will be hosted by Arthur Smith and 2014’s Top-of-the-Bill Act, Alasdair Beckett-King will headline the gig.
