News: Mr Drew's English Teacher Goes On Tour

If you've enjoyed Mark Grist in the new C4 series Mr Drew's School for Boys you can now see him on tour. The Poet Laureate of Peterborough, best known for his rap-offs as modern day bard MarkGrist, is currently on the road with his critically acclaimed show Rogue Teacher.

The ‘Jamie Oliver’ of poetry first made his name in 2012 when a clip of him defeating teenage grime artist MC Blizzard in a rap battle went viral. Since then, the clip has notched up over 4m hits on YouTube, making it the most-watched English-speaking rap battle of all time.

Grist is hell bent on dragging poetry into the mainstream, challenging stereotypes and bringing spoken word to the masses. Rogue Teacher charts Grist's journey from English teacher to spoken word professional, weaving in an ode to redheads, a univocalism (an ingenious poem using only one vowel) and more.

He also performs as one half of Dead Poets with MC Mixy, a double act fusing spoken word with hip-hop, earning a string of excellent reviews at Edinburgh Festival in 2010. He became Poet Laureate of Peterborough in 2008, Chief Bard of the Fens in 2009, and Edinburgh Fringe Slam Champion in 2010. When he is not performing live or appearing on Mt Drew's School for Boys he still has a day job as an educational consultant.

Rogue Teacher is touring until May 30. Details here. Click on "next" below on the right to see Grist's famous Don't Flop rap battle.
