Comedian Hasan Minhaj is to host a regular show on Netflix.The Daily Show correspondent will be the first Indian-American to front a weekly comedy show.

Netflix describes Minhaj's forthcoming series as a platform for the stand-up to explore the modern cultural and political landscapes with depth and sincerity. 32 episodes are to be made later this year.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the Netflix family as the country braces for another election season And like you, I cannot wait to find out who Putin picks this time," Minhaj said in a statement.

Minhaj is very much a comedian on the rise. He made his UK debut recently with a short run at the Soho Theatre. He had been due to do a few shows at the Edinburgh Fringe last year but postponed them. He came to prominence last year when he appeared at the first White House Correspondents Dinner during the Trump Presidency (Donald Trump did not attend). He has alreayd had a Netflix special, Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King.
