News: Late Show Looks For New Venue Following Noise Complaints

Late night extravaganza The Asylum, led by Phil Nichol and Kirsty Newton, has been forced to look for a new venue following complaints that it is too noisy.

They are now calling on the Fringe venue community to find a new space to host this late night show from Thursday to Saturday until the end of the month.  Any venue that can help should contact Phil Nichol c/o [email protected]

Nichol says: "I’m loving performing my solo show ‘Your Wrong' at the Monkey Barrel, it's one of the best venues for comedy. Sadly due to council action my late show ‘The Asylum’ is now without a venue and we are looking for a new home for this brash, crazy and unhinged show."

Newton added: "Apparently we are just too loud for the venue. We are pretty devastated about this as the shows have been ridiculous, brilliant fun and a lot of time, money and effort has gone into them, but noise complaints have happened despite us turning the volume down and the venue may lose its licence, which we definitely don't want as the Monkey Barrel is a wonderful comedy venue with fantastic staff. We absolutely refuse to be silenced though - we're on the search for a new venue as we reckon this show is just too good to die! I'm crossing everything and hope our Fringe family will pull together to save the show and find us a new home."

The Asylum claims to be a departure from other cabaret and comedy shows – "A unique mix of stand-up, musical guests, outrageous hijinks and audience participation all wrapped up in the most fun immersive theatre show on the fringe. Dress like a loony and get involved!" It is a fully immersive three hours of theatrical entertainment with two sets of cabaret followed by DJ Loopy in the bar playing the most bizarre tracks he can find while downstairs the Aftershock Room puts on special pop-up performances from the biggest Fringe stars and the loopiest clowns on the ward.
