News: Comedian Cancels Edinburgh Run Due To Illness & Starts gofundme Campaign

Comedian JoJo Smith has cancelled her Edinburgh run due to illness.

Smith was due to perform I Was the Ninth Dexys Midnight Runner (Ten True Tales) at the Laughing Horse @ Cabaret Voltaire from August 3 - 26.

Smith has launched a gofundme campaign to help pay for treatment and explained her situation on the website: "Almost 10 years ago I had breast implants. Nine and a half years ago I began to feel tired and had dreadful joint pain. In the intervening years I've been diagnosed with Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Connective Tissue Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteo-Arthritis. I suffer from hair loss, difficulty breathing, lung pain, I have allergies, blurred vision, mind fog, vitiligo, tinnitus, blackouts and a million and one other annoying ailments.

I believe I'm suffering from Breast Implant Illness, based on almost twelve months' research. Sadly, the NHS don't seem to believe it exists (it took me six months to get my GP to admit it might possibly be a thing, and the earliest I can be seen by a specialist is November).

I'm a self-employed stand-up comedian, and this has severely impacted my ability to make a living. I was hoping to use a run at the Edinburgh Fringe to try and raise the money for a private explanation but I am too sick to perform and have had to cancel the entire run, which has cost me roughly £750.

I've found a surgeon who will remove these toxic bags of silicone, and the capsules that surround them, but it's going to cost £6000.

I have no savings and without your help will have to incur huge debt either via credit cards or bank loan to pay for it. Complete recovery from all my symptoms is entirely possible but not guaranteed, and I'm terrified of being in debt and unable to repay the cards/loan."
