Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Jonathan Pie/Tom Walker

Video: Jonathan Pie On Lockdown

You may not know the name of Tom Walker but you should know the name of Jonathan Pie. Walker is the actor who created fictional news reporter Pie. In recent years Pie has fulminated about hot topics from Trump to Brexit to Corbyn in short films that have quickly gone viral and notched up millions of views. You can catch up on his pieces for free here and now fans can download Pie's live show, recorded at the Shepherd's Bush Empire earlier this year here. And just to remind you, Jonathan Pie is not real. Though you might find you agree with a lot of the things he says.

Jonathan Pie's latest video is on his YouTube channel here.

Update 27/9/18: Watch his latest show Back To The Studio on iPlayer here.

UK Tour dates here.

1. What is the last thing you do before you go onstage (apart from check your flies and/or check your knickers aren't sticking out of your skirt and check for spinach between your teeth)?

For the live show I would normally urinate about 5 or 6 times, take a slug of Vicks nasal spray and then pace up and down saying things like: concentrate, have fun, take your time and don’t fuck it up!

2. What irritates you?

People who walk on the left hand side of the escalator but then stop 3 steps before the end. That and things that don’t work…(internet, the TV, chat up lines)

3. What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?

A stand up show in Edinburgh. And I nearly fell off Westminster Bridge once…but Edinburgh, definitely.

4. What is the most stupid thing you have ever done?

A stand up show in Edinburgh. And I nearly fell off Westminster Bridge once…but Edinburgh definitely.

5. What has surprised you the most during your career in comedy?

That I have a career in comedy. I’m an actor who accidentally became a character comic/satirist. It is not the path I chose…but it’s a fun path.
