News: Comedian Appears On C4's First Dates

Award winning comedian Lynn Ruth Miller is to appear on C4's reality show First Dates.

American comic Miller, who is 82 and one of the oldest stand-ups on the UK circuit, will be featured in the next edition which goes out on Monday, October 31 at 10pm.

Miller has explained exclusively to Beyond The Joke how it came about: "The first date thing was a joke. I filled out the form thinking "Let's see what they make of THIS" and then they called me in January.  I was speaking with a man named Jordan and it suddenly occurred to me that if they put me on the programme it will show people in their seventies or eighties that they are still an item. I see that they do put a lot of older people up there so this wasn't the unique Idea I thought it was."

"The problem, as you will see, is that with the date they found me (who kept saying "People our age don't ... or "When you get to be our age...." etc" when I do not feel any age at all until I look in the mirror) we did not break that stereotype of being a fuddy duddy. I could go on about this all day but what a waste of time for you. It is perpetuating that idea that fun for eighty year olds wouldn't be fun for twenties and that isn't true. We all have very strong needs, wants and desires at any age."
