Sitcom writer Carla Lane has died. She was 87.

Lane had a number of hits over a lengthy career, including Bread (pictured), Butterflies and The Liver Birds.

She was also famous for her love of animals and was a passionate animal rights activist. For a while she ran an animal sanctuary in Sussex.
