Edinburgh Fringe Rarely Asked Questions – Gabby Killick

Character comedian Gabby Killick returns to the Gilded Balloon with a new show ‘Conversations With My Agent’. This is her fourth solo show at the Fringe. All her previous shows - ‘Game Of Thongs’, ‘Girlfriend From Hell’ and ‘The Bitch Is Back’ were sell-outs.

“Don't joke about that!” Gabby's agent hissed down the phone. In a world where everyone is getting cancelled, Gabby must learn to do what she's told but has always had a problem with being muzzled. Gabby is constantly told by her agent that if she wants to secure more TV work she has to build up her following on social media and Gabby Killick is one of the very few millennials not afraid to speak the truth to the social media generation.

Gabby is a lyrical genius, so she decides to do that on social media and many of her raps started to go viral so she decided to write more. Success! But then her agent tells her “it isn’t for you..It's cultural appropriation darling, you don't want to offend” - So how exactly is Gabby meant to go viral?

Her agent wants her to play it safe, while Gabby strives for more - but at what cost?

Expect Gabby to deliver multi-character comedy and speak some uncomfortable truths that others dare not say. In the show you'll meet shocking diseases, unreliable contraceptives and depressed apps amongst many other characters. Come and see Gabby and her agent battle it out over what makes the final cut.

Gabby’s lockdown songs – ‘Masturbation in Isolation’ and ‘Pose’ – went viral and now she spends as much time touring across the world as working in the UK. She has played to full houses in the USA, Spain, Germany, Austria, Romania and Malta amongst other places!

Gabby Killick’s ‘Conversations With My Agent’ is at the Gilded Balloon Teviot – Lounge at 3pm from 2nd – 27th August (not 14TH). For tickets go to www.edfringe.com

What is the last thing you do before you go onstage (apart from check your flies and/or check your knickers aren't sticking out of your skirt and check for spinach between your teeth)

Please don’t tell anyone I do this but..I have an album of inspirational quotes saved on my phone and I always read them just before I go on stage haha!

My current favorites are…

Nothing  truly wonderful is made without first being a little bit cringe

What if I fall?… but my darling what if you fly!

Do your thing and don't care if they  like it!

Haha!

What irritates you?

I'm a very impatient person and it's getting worse as I'm getting older.

I cannot disguise my annoyance  when  someone is walking slowly in front of me. I honestly think they’re doing it on purpose. I can feel the“EXCUSE ME” bubbling up and it always comes out way more aggressive  than it needs to be.  I’ve decided it's okay though because 9 times out of 10 the slow walker has headphones in and doesn’t hear the meanness in my voice even though I do scowl at them as I walk past.

It baffles me when people start talking to me just  before I go on stage. It's so obvious I'm getting in the zone. I don’t want to have a conversation with you about how you’ve always wanted to try comedy. Now is not the moment!

What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?

I don’t know about the most dangerous thing I've done, but the most dangerous mix for me is definitely having a  bottle of white wine and my phone.

I’ve sent outrageous texts to ex-boyfriends (who dumped me years ago, and now have a family) for some reason after a few glasses I'm like, “do you know who I think would LOVE to hear from me…” and then I send a text which is half funny and half really rude and then I wake up like, “omg this is just so unlike me”.... Even though the text chain tells me I did it only a few days before…

What is the most stupid thing you have ever done?

Posted a picture on social media of my impetigo (which is an infected eczema wart  just under my lip). Everyone thought it was herpes. I promise it wasn’t. I posted it  because I was trying to be “relatable” but now the boys I fancy can’t “unsee it” and I’ll be forever known as Scabby Gabby

What has surprised you the most during your career in comedy?

How delusional everyone is. Why do we all think we have a shot of making the big time? The chances are so unbelievably small and here we are just going for it. Like i'm sorry but what the f*** are we all doing ? We’re definitely going to get to 50 and cringe but to be fair I'd  rather do  that than not try at all.
