Joe Wilkinson And David Earl Release World Cup Song

Comedians and podcast hosts Joe Wilkinson and David Earl are launching a football song to get behind the England Team and help spur the lads on to victory in the World Cup. “Cup For The Cupboard” has been born out of the duo’s popular daily podcast Chatabix and features them both on vocals.

With the backing of their loyal fans - dubbed “Chatabiscuits” - the stars of Ricky Gervais’s hit comedy Afterlife are aiming to knock Skinner & Baddiel off the comedian-led football song top spot, and get the catchy track into the Top 10. The comedy duo also have their hearts set on getting “Cup For The Cupboard” played as the England squad run out on the pitch in Qatar, doing their bit to motivate the team. Failing that they hope the song will just pave the way for Gareth Southgate to come on the pod.

“We just wanted to help the team in any way - although I’m slightly worried my voice might actually put them off. If so then apologies to the nation in advance. I really enjoyed being the Andrew Ridgley to David’s George Michael” says Wilkinson.

“I desperately want to be invited to an England game to have a lovely slap up meal, sit in a warm cosy seat and watch the team play. Then I want to meet the team, have a good laugh, make friends, and then start a WhatsApp group with all of them. This was my motivation for writing the song, no further questions please” says Earl.

The catchy ditty is written and performed by Earl with Wilkinson’s vocals (and some fine tuning from Eyesonlegs), with inspiration from Robert Smith of The Cure (who David wants to be). It will be released exclusively on the Chatabix podcast feed on 1st November and thereafter available to download from Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music amongst other places.

Joe Wilkinson is best known for his appearances on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Afterlife, Him & Her and his own sitcom (co-written with Earl) The Cockfields.

David Earl has appeared in Afterlife, Derek and more recently his own award-winning film Brian & Charles which stole the nation’s heart and won the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award.

Chatabix - part of the Acast Creator Network - is a daily podcast which takes a nonsensical meander through Wilkinson and Earl’s day to day lives punctuated with observational comedy moments and celebrity guests. This summer Chatabix even knocked The Rest Is Politics off the no. 1 spot in the Apple Podcast Charts.

Eyesonlegs are multi instrumentalist/music writer & producer Daniel Reid Frontman with UK Rock Pop group “Outsider”. Owner of Independent record label “Firewall Records” based in Lancashire.

The song is available now on Apple and Spotify
