News: Dapper Laughs On The Pull – No 2nd Series

Dapper Laughs

ITV2 will not be making a second series of the Dapper Laughs series, On The Pull. The following statement was issued this evening: "We have given careful thought to the recent criticism of the character Dapper Laughs, which has focused on his activities outside of the ITV2 programme. We have taken the decision that we will not be considering this show for a second series."

This follows a sustained online campaign which today included a statement signed by over forty professional comedians. There was also a gig cancellation and, perhaps most persuasively, a petition to stop a second series, which had attracted over 50,000 signatures. According to the ITV statement, the broadcaster had, however, only received 29 complaints from the public about the first series. Broadcasting regulator Ofcom said it had received 37 complaints from viewers who thought the programme was degrading to women.

Footage had also emerged today of Dapper Laughs at a gig saying to a woman in the audience "you're gagging for a rape." Daniel O'Reilly/Dapper Laughs had issued an apology over the weekend but it does not appear to have placated his opponents in the comedy industry or the channel that commissioned his first TV series.
