News: Major New Venue Reopens

Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) is making a major move into comedy as it re-opens the historic North East venue, Stockton Globe.

The multi-million pound refurbishment, funded by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, will see ATG utilise its network of the world’s best talent, producers and promoters, to bring the biggest names in comedy and music back to the venue in the first time in over 40 years.

ATG venues have hosted names including Ricky Gervais, Amy Schumer, Eddie Izzard, Michael McIntyre, Vic & Bob, Rhod Gilbert, Romesh Ranganathan and RuPaul’s Drag Race as well as top talent in music Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, David Byrne, Elvis Costello, Frankie Valli, Art Garfunkel, Gary Barlow, Paloma Faith, Ben Howard, Gregory Porter, Kraftwerk, Gatecrasher Classical, Thom Yorke, Nick Cave, Jessie J, Leona Lewis, Courteeners, Mumford & Sons, Biffy Clyro, Simple Minds, The Proclaimers and James.

The historic art deco building, due to reopen its doors in just over a year, is being transformed into a 3,000+ capacity venue with flexible auditorium for standing and seated events. The refurbishment will also see a smaller 250 capacity venue open in the adjoining building.

Stockton Globe leads the expansion of ATG’s portfolio of music-led venues, demonstrating the company’s intention to take a further foothold in the live music and comedy industries. With close to 50 worldwide venues including in the West End and on Broadway, ATG is the authority in live entertainment, selling c.11m tickets every year and operating the UK’s most visited theatre website ATGtickets.com.
