News: Comedy Club Offers Bursary To Female Stand-Up For Second Year

The 99 Club in Central London has announced a second bursary for female and non-binary performers taking their first full length solo show to the Edinburgh Festival this summer after launching the bursary last year.

Shortlisted performers will appear in a showcase at 99 Club Leicester Square on Tuesday 29th May 2018 and two comics will each receive an award of £500.

Last summer's showcase featured Lauren Pattison, who went on to pick up an Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer nomination, Arna Spek, Athena Kugblenu, Evelyn Mok & Maria Shehata.

The club has six different West End venues and over the years has hosted performances by female comics like Sara Pascoe, Ellie Taylor, Sarah Millican, Sarah Silverman, Luisa Omelian, Katherine Ryan, Zoe Lyons, Kerry Godliman, Roisin Conaty, Holly Walsh, Shappi Khorsandi (with Roisin, Holly and Shappi having been resident MCs for us) and many many more.

In March 2017 and 2018, the club was one of the official partners of the UN Women’s HeforShe gender equality campaign, and ran a comedy show to raise both funds and awareness in conjunction with their 2017 and 2018 HeForShe Arts Weeks.
