Cinema Screenings For Edinburgh Shows

Cinema Screenings For Edinburgh Shows

NextUp have partnered with various UK-wide cinemas to bring a curated selection of the 60+ shows  they’re live-streaming from the Edinburgh Fringe to the big screen.

NextUp Founder Sarah Henley says ‘We’re so excited about this project. We want comedy to be as accessible as possible for everyone, and these screenings allow for that shared experience of watching comedy with your mates, without the expense of a trip to Edinburgh. There’s an awesome selection of some of our most exciting streams available - The Wrestling, Rosie Holt, Patrick Spicer, Arthur Smith, Nick Helm, Shazia Mirza, Esther Manito and News Revue ’

Picturehouse (Ashford, Bath, Crouch End, Exeter, Finsbury Park, Fulham, Greenwich, Hackney, Liverpool, Ritzy and Southampton), The Curzon Soho and Leicester Phoenix will all be screening a selection of the best shows that Edinburgh has to offer.

Michael Grand, Head of Public Events at the Curzon says ‘‘We are delighted to be partnering with NextUp Comedy to bring two outstanding Edinburgh Fringe shows to Curzon Soho. Rosie Holt has shown her talent for politically charged satire in her previous work, and channels that same energy in her hilarious hour-long special. While The Wrestling, the biggest show in Fringe history, has long captivated audiences with its face-off between world-class comedians and world-class wrestlers. We look forward to sharing these special events with a London audience.'

And a spokesperson at the The Picturehouse says: "We're delighted to be part of this pioneering event, bringing some of the UK's best comics to audiences at Picturehouse cinemas."

So if you’re keen to watch live shows from Edinburgh with a crowd fellow comedy fans, but can’t make the trip - try a NextUp cinema stream!

SCREENINGS

Curzon Soho

Rosie Holt

Social media sensation and Chortle Award winner Rosie Holt debuts an hour of character comedy (already sold out in Edinburgh)  based on her hit satirical videos. A right-wing "opinionist" distorting the news, an MP desperately defending a failing government, a left-winger wanting to say the right thing but scared of getting it wrong. These characters and more come together when their creator accidentally becomes the news, as they try to speak their truth whatever the facts. 'If she can stay in character long enough, she'll have a Telegraph column and a seat on Question Time by teatime' (James O'Brien).

The Wrestling

By far and away the biggest show in the history of Edinburgh.  Big name comedians. Wrestlers. Blood. A Winner of the Edinburgh Comedy Awards Panel Prize. 'A truly awesome event' ***** (Chortle.co.uk). 'One of the best events on the Fringe' ***** (List). 'Has to be seen to be believed' **** (Guardian). 'Sublime' **** (Evening Standard). 'Brilliant' **** (Telegraph). 'Genius' (Times).

PictureHouses

Patrick Spicer

One of the most exciting acts on the UK comedy circuit and one of the most pathetic cringing worms (as seen on The Mash Report (BBC2), BBC3 and Channel 4 Online.) in his highly anticipated debut hour, ‘Who’s this all of a sudden?’. ‘ Patrick will be recounting his deepest fears and humiliations in a ‘funny and credible way’.

Arthur Smith

The Edinburgh legend  in his last show at the Fringe - ‘My 75 Years at the Edinburgh Fringe’  - Recalling some of the triumphs, disasters, love affairs and arrests of his many Augusts in Auld Reekie. Hamlet, Colditz, Leonard Cohen, Dante, dementia, Arthur's Seat, Gary Lineker and the Leith Police all feature in this moving hour of revelations, songs, poems, gags and bad costumes.

Nick Helm,

Well known for his starring role in BBC show ‘Uncle’  in his show ‘What Have We Become’  -  a show so insightful, so honest, so legitimate that it will fix all of society's problems and lead the way to a new plane of existence. This is the future. The future is now.

Esther Manito

Esther looks back at the era of lad mags, landlines and cock-n-ball graffiti in her show #NotAllMen. A time where the media said her Middle Eastern heritage was filled with misogynistic men, whereas the West absolutely had (and still has) sexism sorted. Has lad culture really improved? Does 90s Essex have the answers?

Shazia Mirza

Shazia comes to the terrible realization that maybe my parents were right in ‘Coconut’.  People keep telling her she'll be ok because she’s a strong woman. What does that mean? She survived The Island with Bear Grylls – who knew that would prepare me her what was about to come?

Phoenix Leicester

Arthur Smith

This independent cinema in Leicester (home of the UK’s biggest comedy only festival each year) is also joining in, with the legend Arthur Smith’s last ever Edinburgh show (more info above).

News Revue

NewsRevue; parodying politics in a post-pandemic world. This multi award-winning fringe favourite is flawlessly delivered by four outstanding performers at lightning speed and expertly accompanied by an on-stage musical director. From Covid to climate change, disgraced royals to the Queen's jubilee, Putin to Partygate, NewsRevue will bang to rights those in the public eye and allow you to laugh at the awful reality of current events.
