Interview
Josie Long was one of my favourite comedians even before she co-founded Arts Emergency to help students study arts degrees. I don't always agree with her but I admire the way that she throws herself headlong into everything she does, whether it is her pursuit of social justice or her hobby of outdoor swimming.
Good news for Mighty Boosh fans – or at least Mighty Boosh fans who can afford transatlantic flights. The duo will be reuniting to appear at the Festival Supreme, a one-day comedy festival organised by Jack Black and Kyle Glass, aka Tenacious D. Also appearing are Sarah Silverman, Zach Galifianikis, Eric Idle, Adam Sandler, Demetri Martin, Hannibal Buress, Reggie Watts and lots more.
Rory Kinnear must be one of the UK's most versatile actors, equally at home onstage in classical dramas and on TV in comedies. His latest role on the box is in the new BBC2 series, Count Arthur Strong, where he demonstrates some mighty meaty comedy chops.
In today's Bafta nominee interview Alan Carr talks about his love of being in the limelight and the challenge of trying to get better guests than Graham Norton. The friendly rivalry with Norton continues with the Bafta TV Awards – they are both up for Best Entertainment Performance. This interview first appeared in The Times in 2010. The results are announced on May 12.
The second feature in our series on this year's Bafta nominees is a location report on the making of Twenty Twelve featuring interviews with co-stars Hugh Bonneville and Jessica Hynes first published in The Times last March.
2013 is shaping up to be good year for Doc Brown. He appeared alongside Ricky Gervais in C4 comedy Derek and the professional relationship continued when Brown co-starred with David Brent in the Comic Relief video Equality Street. I interviewed Brown in 2010 when he first made a splash at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The current kerfuffle about Reginald D Hunter's recent gig at the PFA dinner is not the first time the soft-spoken stand-up has ended up in hot water.
David Haig is one of our great comic actors both onstage and onscreen. Unfortunately his latest project, The Wright Way, is not so great. Here is a frank, funny interview with Haig from December 2008 when he was starring in the revival of Joe Orton's black comedy Loot onstage. At the time I speculated that Haig does his best work when he is sporting his trademark moustache.
Comedy Crisis? What Comedy Crisis? Russell Howard has just announced a World Tour for 2014 taking in four nights at the Royal Albert Hall, which is certainly classier than the O2 Arena. Here is an interview with Howard from 2009 in which he talks about his family, his career and comedy onscreen as well as onstage.
Details of Russell Howard's tour here,
Julian Clary starts his new live tour, Position Vacant, this weekend. Details here. This interview, first published in The Times, dates from his last tour, Lord of the Mince, but, as you can tell from the title there may be a degree of "creative/artistic overlap".
