Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Fin Taylor

2015: Fin Taylor released his last stand-up show as a free download. He chose to do this in preference to a potential bank balance-breaking London run, but, who knows, maybe he will get a London run out of it. Taylor is a comedian on the rise. He has been a Chortle Student Award semi-finalist, has warmed up for Never Mind the Buzzcocks and supported Glenn Wool on tour. Give his set a listen - money back guaranteed. Oh, did I mention that it's free?

Classic Interview: Julia Davis

We haven’t seen much of Julia Davis on television since her Sky Atlantic costume comedy Hunderby, apart from all-too-brief cameos in Inside No 9 and Psychobitches. But that is due to change in 2015. Davis, best known for the warped humour of Nighty Night, is due to return in Morning Has Broken, a C4 comedy about a breakfast television presenter named Gail Sinclair battling to save her failing career.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Phil Kay

Phil Kay is a bit of a legend around these parts. In fact if there was any justice he would be a bit of a legend around any parts. Over the years I’ve seen this unpredictable Scottish goon-slash-genius do absolutely stunning gigs and absolutely terrible gigs, but the one consistent element is that he is never less than totally watchable. I thought he had mellowed in recent years but the last time I saw him he had an arm in a sling and was trying to control a rowdy crowd in a pop-up venue in a Leicester hotel lobby.

Rarely Asked Questions – Holly Burn

Given that Holly Burn's viral Victoria Beckham clip is all about asking questions we thought it was only fair that we asked Holly Burn some questions of our own. At the start of the week she knocked out a quick el cheapo clip sending up Victoria Beckham's recent video interview for Vogue and the nation's press promptly picked up on it. Not only that, but Beckham herself sportingly retweeted it too. It's a beautifully executed showcase for Burn's madcap sensibility.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – John Dredge

John Dredge is a prolific podcaster and YouTube clip-maker. Barely a week goes by without something by Dredge landing in my inbox and brightening my day.

Interview: Brett Goldstein on SuperBob

A Hollywood screenwriter couldn’t make it up. We had just finished talking about his role as a London-based superhero when actor and comedian Brett Goldstein came to the rescue in a real-life drama. As we walked to St Pancras station, a man running for a train slipped and head-butted the pavement. In a flash Goldstein was at his side, albeit without changing into his Lycra pants and cape.

Interview: Curiosity Cabaret's Dr Clive Selwyn

Is it science? Is it comedy? It’s probably a bit of both. If you want something different try the Curiosity Cabaret which runs from Dec 2 - 7 at the Old Operating Theatre near London Bridge. This new show is hosted by Clive Selwyn, a real-life doctor who will be introducing various exotic acts and a talk from Dr Anna Maerker, Senior Lecturer at King's College London, during an evening that will have the theme of The Voice - nothing to do with Will.i.am and swivelling chairs though.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Alfie Brown

Alfie Brown is different to other comedians. I thought that the first time I saw him and he spent much of his set arguing about whether he was being sexist with his audience. He is painfully, brutally honest, baring his soul onstage, but always in a very funny way. In fact just to underline that honesty, he is the first person to answer my question below about earnings by coming up with an actual figure. Though maybe he needs to have a chat with his agent.

Classic Interviewish: Chris Morris

I was just listening to the Chris Morris retrospective Raw Meat Radio on Radio 4 Extra and I came across this old piece online that I wrote about Morris for the Evening Standard when his sitcom Nathan Barley was broadcast on C4 in 2005.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Ian Stone

To say that Ian Stone is a stalwart stand-up is an understatement. He has been a professional comedian for over two decades, taking full-length shows to the Edinburgh Festival and pacifying even the toughest of crowds in comedy clubs with his sharp wit and keen observational humour. In recent years Stone has become known for his sports-related work. He has been a regular on Arsenal’s podcast The Tuesday Club and has written for the club magazine.
