Edinburgh Fringe Review: Adam Hess, Cactus, Heroes @ The Hive

I was sitting next to a friend at Cactus, the latest show from Adam Hess, and afterwards they turned to me and said “I’ve never heard you laugh so much.” I’m not known for laughing out loud at comedy shows (I don’t think many critics are) so this is praise indeed. The review would be five stars but he talks so fast and so frantically it is sometimes hard to keep up. And there is something about his frankly manic style that may not appeal to everyone.

Review: Adam Hess, Latitude 2017

I find Adam Hess extremely funny but I wonder if he needs help. Maybe of the therapy kind or maybe of the directorial kind. Or maybe both. He is the kind of nerdy, neurotic comedian who cracks so many jokes it is sometimes hard to keep up with him. Particularly during the day at a festival in the sun where you might not have had a lot of sleep and are feeling a little delicate.

Edinburgh Fringe Review: Adam Hess, Heroes @ The Hive

Last year Adam Hess picked up an Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer nomination for his debut show. This year he is back and faces the tricky second show syndrome. It doesn’t seem that tricky to Hess though. If anything this show is better than 2015’s breakthrough hour.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Adam Hess

I laughed like a loon at Adam Hess' Fringe show last summer. The gags flew around the room at such a fast and furious pace that I was still chuckling at one punchline when the next one hit me. He more than deserved his Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer nomination. As well as the wordplay and one-liners there is a playful, childlike streak to Hess. He felt a bit like a boy trapped in a man’s body. His new show is called Feathers.

Live Review, Adam Hess, Heroes @ The Hive, Edinburgh Fringe

Adam Hess was one of the breakout stars of this summer's Edinburgh Fringe. That's not just my opinion, it was also the opinion of the Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Award judges who shortlisted him for the Best Newcomer Award. I might have actually put him on the shortlist for the main prize.
