Edinburgh Fringe Preview: David Trent

David Trent

Multi-media comedy had been done before, but when David Trent appeared on the scene a couple of years ago he turned heads with his angry combination of clips and quips. Or maybe it was just the shouting that attracted people’s attention. No, it was the brutally savage, self-lacerating wit and intelligence with which he combined health and safety films and the inner workings of his frustrated mindset. Trent picked up a Foster’s Best Newcomer nomination in 2012, but then last year had a bit of the comedy equivalent of second album syndrome. He had packed a lifetime's worth of pent-up aggression into his debut show, he then had a year to find other things to be equally angry about. It was still a pretty good show but did not particularly move things on, which is what awards judges like to see. He is back this year with Trentertainment and it should be better than last year’s show. Even if everything else is going smoothly in his life he has now had some awards panel rejection to vent his spleen over. Lots of shouting or your money back. David Trent is at BAC tonight.

David Trent is at the Pleasance Courtyard from July 30 - August 24. Tickets here.
