News: New Film From Garth Marenghi Creator Matt Holness

Matt Holness, who created comic horror writer Garth Marenghi, is in the process of finishing his first full-length British independent feature film as director.

Possum stars Sean Harris and Alun Armstrong. Holness has described it as this: “Possum is a supernatural horror combining the stark psycho-drama of George Romero’s Martin with the uncanny terror of Dead Of Night. The film draws on the dark nightmares of silent expressionist horror, British classics such as The Innocents and Don’t Look Now, as well as the claustrophobic suburban gothic of Pete Walker’s Frightmare. Possum will terrify in the best tradition of classic horror cinema, evoking an atmosphere of supernatural dread and creeping horror.”

Holness was part of the ensemble that won the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival in 2001 and went on to make Garth Marenghi's Darkplace for Channel 4. He also had a stand-out cameo in series two of The Office as Simon the moody IT expert.

He previously directed and starred in the retro-cult short A Gun for George.
