News: Former Time Out Comedy Editor Turns Edinburgh Promoter

Former Time Out Comedy Editor Ben Williams has launched a comedy production company and has announced a raft of shows going to the Edinburgh Fringe this summer.

Plosive Productions is producing six solo shows at this year’s festival: Annie McGrath, Ben Target, Lucy Pearman, Pat Cahill, Stuart Laws and Sunil Patel. Plus weekend line-up show Audible Live, being recorded for Audible.co.uk. Details below.

Williams is not new to comedy promotion. He already runs the Wells Comedy Festival. This year's Festival takes place next week. Details here.

Annie McGrath: Ambivert
6.20pm, Just the Tonic at the Mash House

After last year’s joke did so well (Dave’s Top Ten Funniest Jokes of the Fringe 2016), Annie returns to Edinburgh with another one. Annie has written and performed on ITV2, Channel 4, BBC Radio 4 Extra and BBC Radio Wales.

Ben Target’s Orangeade
5pm, Heroes @ Dragonfly

Gentle comedy. Mellow drama. Balmy ballgames. Peeling back the years with a softer show, the sunset on an endless summer from ‘maverick physical comedian (and Edinburgh Best Newcomer nominee) Ben Target’ (Guardian).

Lucy Pearman: Maid of Cabbage
12.30pm, Heroes @ Monkey Barrel

'Traditionally, unmarried maids were sent into the vegetable garden to choose the perfect cabbage' (Anon). Bonkers storytelling with a heart and an elusive cabbage. Trapped in a dysfunctional household, will an Edwardian(ish) maid’s devilish streak ruin everything or will the cabbage save her? Debut solo show from half of sketch duo LetLuce.

Pat Cahill: The Fisherman
2.50pm, Heroes @ Monkey Barrel

Pat Cahill is The Fisherman. Having hidden in plain sight as an absurdist comedian for a while now, it’s time for him to flash you a sneaky bink at his ultimate form. Come and enjoy a bit of quiet reflection by the riverbank, interrupted by an idiot who insists on singing, chatting and spooking the fish.

Stuart Laws Stops
7pm, Pleasance Courtyard

Stuart has got fast-paced, hilarious observations and he ain't afraid to say them over the course of an hour. He does all the comedy at Turtle Canyon Comedy and supported James Acaster on tour loads. As heard on BBC Radio 4.

Sunil Patel: Titan
3.35pm, Laughing Horse @ The Counting House

Am I here for a little holiday? No! I’m doing my second show. As seen on the Channel 5 sitcom Borderline and an online advert for nasal spray. I have since become overbearingly arrogant and will not physically handle any money, (cos of your germs etc).

Audible Live
5.20pm, Pleasance Dome – Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays

Audible presents four weekends of completely free live comedy shows, showcasing the finest acts the festival has to offer, all being recorded for a new Audible stand-up series. 2016's shows featured Rory Bremner, Dom Joly, Beardyman, Chris Gethard, Sam Simmons, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Iain Lee, Tom Ballard and many more.
