News: Edinburgh Comedy Poster Awards - Winners Announced

The results have been announced of this year's Edinburgh Comedy Poster Awards.

There were two awards given out, both with a prize money of £1500.

The audience award was won by Desiree Burch. Her poster for ‘This is Evolution’ had the most votes of the competition, despite runner-up Kai Humphries pushing 18,000 hits to the site in the last day of the competition and taking second place.

Desiree’s poster is made up of lots of unsolicited ‘dick pics’ collected from her time online dating and was designed by Aaron Jacob Jones.

The top 5 was:

Cat Call - by Catherine Bohart and Cally Beaton

Mr Edinburgh 2016 - Beasts

Jenny Collier - Jen - Hur

This is Evolution - Desiree Burch - Winner

In Full Cover - Kai Humphries - Second place

Meanwhile the Panel Prize went to Lou Sanders for her What's That Lady Doing? poster, photgraph by Thurstan Redding, design by James Firth.

The main contenders were:

Bad Man Tings - Carl Donnelly

31 - Jayde Adams

What’s That Lady Doing? - Lou Sanders

Lolly 2 - Lolly Adefope

Same Same But Different - Pippa Evans

The awards were sponsored Suite TV, the post production house that in recent years has edited Catherine Tate’s ‘Nan’, ‘Man Down’, Billy Connolly’s documentary series, ‘Chewing Gum’, ‘Derek’, plus many more.

Suite’s Chairman Julian Aston said of the poster: "It's been a tough decision as there are so many amazing posters but after much deliberation we chose Lou. When we saw Lou's poster our first thought was 'what is she doing?' We were intrigued and it piqued our interest. The poster perfectly describes the show in a smart & well executed way!"

Lou will now win the £1500 prize plus an edit at Suite with one of their top editors to cut something of her choice.

Lou is currently working on a short film starring Tom Rosenthal and developing a feature film with BAFTA nominated comedy writer Hannah George.

The awards saw 330 posters submitted into the competition with 16,051 votes overall.

The competition is now looking to transfer to Melbourne and New York in the new year and are looking for a sponsor to take them global.
