Alex, who has previously participated in diversity schemes at Channel 4, will also act as a diversity champion for the genre at the BBC.

Most recently Alex has worked at both CPL Productions and Happy Tramp, developing scripted comedy and comedy-entertainment projects. Prior to that she produced the Bafta-nominated short film Elephant at Happy Tramp for BBC iPlayer. Before this she worked in development at BBC in-house comedy.

She spent much of her early career at Vic Reeves, Bob Mortimer and Lisa Clark's indie Pett Productions as an assistant producer, then producer on shows including Tittybangbang (BBC), Monkey Trousers (ITV), The Angelos Epithemiou Show (C4), Vic & Bob's Lucky Sexy Winners (C4) and Shooting Stars (BBC).

She has also produced Chatty Man (C4) at Open Mike, and A League Of Their Own (Sky1) and the 2012 British Comedy Awards (C4) for CPL.

Alex says: “I'm thrilled to be joining the BBC Comedy commissioning team. I've been laughing at comedy on the BBC since I was a kid, and the lure of working somewhere with such an unrivalled range and heritage of funny output, is irresistible."

Shane says: “Alex brings her boundless energy, enthusiasm and finely tuned comic sensibilities to boost the range of the BBC talent family and will play a key part in delivering over 100 hours of originated comedy on BBC television. It’s an exciting and dynamic time to join us, with the cross-channel approach to commissioning, the fresh opportunities for new talent around Three, and BBC iPlayer providing a springboard to future audience consumption.”

Alex takes up the role on 3 May 2016.
