The British Comedy Society is to honour the TV comedy scriptwriters Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, who this year celebrate 35 years as professional TV comedy writers, with their prestigious Living Legend Award.

This special event takes place at London's Leicester Square Theatre on Sunday 13th September 2015, in aid of Marks and Gran’s chosen charities, Orbis and Crisis at Christmas

Marks and Gran will be discussing their career on stage with cultural historian Louis Barfe. They will be joined by a selection of special celebrity guests, who will talk about working with the duo and pay tribute to their impressive and varied career in comedy, illustrated by clips from their shows and followed by an audience Q&A session.

Laurence and Maurice are thrilled to be receiving this award to mark this milestone in their careers, although true to their comic roots they never take themselves that seriously:

"There were moments when in North Korea that I never thought I would qualify for becoming a Living Legend. A dead one, maybe." joked Laurence

"Now the world can see the sort of insanity I have to deal with every working day," Maurice adds.

Marks and Gran are credited by some with creating the 'comedy drama' genre, with the hit ITV series Shine On Harvey Moon, which ran between 1982 and 1995.

They went on to write The New Statesman for Rik Mayall and Goodnight Sweetheart for Nicholas Lyndhurst, and made stars of Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson in Birds Of A Feather. Other credits include writing for Frankie Howerd on radio, and in recent years have branched out into theatre with the New Statesman live production, and also the books for smash hit jukebox musicals Dreamboats & Petticoats and Dreamboats & Miniskirts.
