News: Vikki Stone To Write Eurovision Entry?

Vikki Stone

Musical comedian Vikki Stone is planning to enter the competition to represent the United Kingdom in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.

Stone told Beyond The Joke about her plans. "The BBC has an open submissions policy for the first time in years. Every year I watch Eurovision I look at our entry and think 'I could do better', and so I decided to chuck my hat into the ring! It's not a comedy song. It's a proper, huge, belter of a song, called 'Bring The Rain' scored for me (singing and playing the piano), string quartet and drum machine/synth. The BBC want a video of you performing the song, as part of the submissions process, so I'm recording me performing it on the stage at Chorley Little Theatre before I do my tour show on Saturday."

The musical comedian, whose recent solo show Instrumental received great reviews, live-tweeted the most recent event, having sympathy for some of the entries who failed to set the competition alight: “Poor France. I liked their song about the moustache. How were they to know this year was all about beards.”

She also joked at the time: “I'm going to enter next year. I'll make sure we come last with style.”

She has just tweeted four reasons why she would be great at Eurovision on Twitter:

1) I love flags

2) I love waving flags

3) I love appearing in awkward VTs

4) I can sing

Stone told Beyond The Joke that "The BBC won't announce who they've chosen until the spring, so in the mean time, I figure a #vikkiforeurovision hashtag can't hurt. Fingers crossed I get to do some flag-waving in Austria......"
