News: Tessa Jowell Talks To Comic About Running For Mayor

Matt Forde

MP Dame Tessa Jowell has admitted that she is considering standing for election to be the next London Mayor. Jowell has been asked the question a number of times, but this interview, which took place in Manchester during the Labour Party Conference, included probably the most conclusive answer she has given yet.

The former Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport was speaking to broadcaster/comedian Matt Forde on September 23 for his podcast, The Political Party. Forde asked Jowell if she would consider standing and she said “Yes” then after a pause added playfully, “Would I consider running for Mayor of London? I’d consider it. Wouldn’t I be mad not to consider it?” Forde replied “I think you could be the best Mayor of London we could ever have."

Matt Forde can currently be seen on C4 in Jon Richardson Grows Up. The final episode goes out on Monday, September 29. He will also be doing more live versions of his Political Party show this autumn at St James Theatre. His guest on October 29 is Michael Portillo. Details here.

Listen to his interview with Tessa Jowell here. The discussion about London Mayor is at 1:02.
