News: Edinburgh Fringe Show Title Controversy

In the never-ending bid to come up with an eye-catching show title to get the box office takings moving in the right direction, Gavin Webster has opted for what could be dubbed the Ronseal Approach for his 2014 Edinburgh Fringe show. Well, we don't know how controversial the actual show will be, but the title, A Controversial Title In Order To Sell Tickets, should certainly look good on the flyers.

Opinion: Why I Hate Sketch Comedy

Well, of course I don't hate sketch comedy. But, heck, it’s a crowded market out there, I’ve got to get you to click on the link somehow. So now I’ve got your attention I’ll explain and expand. Sketch comedy is probably my least favourite form of comedy. When I go to gigs I prefer stand-up. When I’m watching TV I prefer a sitcom. I’ll frequently watch sketches on YouTube, but the quality is so inconsistent my laptop is invariably in danger of being lobbed out of the window before you can say "buffering".

Instalments come out every Friday and are put together by some of the “Elves” who live at the bottom of Stephen Fry's garden, ie they do the research on QI and make Mr Fry appear like the human incarnation of Google.

News: Has Jim Davidson Cleaned Up His Act?

In a wide-ranging interviewing with Martin Walker of website Broadwaybaby.com Jim Davidson has revealed that he may be returning to BBC1 television. The controversial comedian and Celebrity Big Brother winner also discussed his position in the comedy world and whether appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer would help to change people’s attitudes to him: “If I was to cure malaria and eradicate AIDS I would still be the arsehole racist homophobic fucking god-knows-what, so all I’m going to do up there is my spot.”

Opinion: What Went Wrong With I Can't Sing!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.  The news that I Can’t Sing! is to close after only two months has been swiftly followed by people saying that they are not surprised that it did not turn out to be the latest all-conquering blockbuster on Simon Cowell’s CV.

Review: On The Beach/The Islanders

“You know it’s not comedy right?” When I was arranging tickets for this double bill the promoter warned me that it was not a comedy show. OK, it’s not going to be on Live at the Apollo any time soon, but this twin-pronged delight, currently touring seaside venues, north Wales and Oxford and London, contains plenty in it to appeal to comedy fans.
